When we created Codiga back in 2020, we set out to build a robust platform that houses multiple tools that can save software engineers valuable time in their day.
When designing our product, ease-of-use and community were top of mind, and outside of providing our users with smart tools that support all aspects of software development, we’re on a mission to build a network of like-minded people who can contribute and share code patterns in one, easy place.
When we launched our new Coding Assistant feature at the end of 2021, we aimed to save developers time spent scouring the web for reusable code patterns by giving them access to an extensive library of reusable blocks of code that can be populated in a matter of seconds. This tool is ideal for both teams and those who work in a more isolated capacity, as it allows users to subscribe to and populate coding patterns directly within their IDE instantly. For tech teams, it’s a way to keep your projects consistent and streamlined, and for individual users, it’s a resource for you to find the right coding foundations to speed up any project you are working on.
The purpose of Coding Assistant is to save you time and stress, but the essence of this feature is all about community. The bottom line is that our product gets better the more it’s used; the more Recipes being added by our users, the more helpful it becomes overall. So, we want to get engineers excited about saving their peers time and sharing their own work with other talented coders by allowing each user to track their own contributions directly in their user profile.
Within the Codiga platform, users can now work to grow their profiles and earn rewards as they contribute public Recipes and Cookbooks.
On a user's profile, anyone who views it will be able to see a badge ranking that showcases how many recipes this person has created and shared publicly on the Codiga platform. The more Recipes and Cookbooks you add, the more your badge ranking improves, and we want to reward our community for helping to make our tools as useful as possible by rolling out a merch rewards program based on the volume of Recipes added.
- Add 10 Recipes and earn Codiga stickers
- Add 50 Recipes and we’ll send you a Codiga T-shirt
- Add 100 Recipes and we’ll send you a $25 Amazon Gift Card
The choice of when to redeem is up to you; simply go to your Coding Assistant Statistics and claim your reward, and we’ll send it out to you as a thank you for being a valued and active member of our community!
Outside of this, we want our users' profile to be a way for them to showcase their work with others, so you’ll also find a full list of Recipes and Cookbooks added by a member directly on a user’s profile. Additionally, you can also see the total number of times your Recipes have been used, so you’ll be able to see the ongoing impact of your contribution in real time.
We’re taking this a step further with our updated public users page that gives real-time performance updates on all of the Recipes and Cookbooks added by our members platform-wide. Here, you can see a list of users' avatars, stats on performance of Recipes added by each user, the highest rated and most used, as well as weekly roundups of what Recipes have been trending. This is a great tool for you to see what Recipes other developers are using to build their projects, so you can make the most informed choice. Outside of this, we hope this page will be a fun and more interactive way for our members to continue to develop their own skills, as they’ll be easily able to see how the coding patterns they contributed are being received and utilized by their peers.
If you’re too busy with your day-to-day to keep tabs on the progression of your user profile, don’t worry; you’ll also receive a weekly email report containing data on how many Recipes and Cookbooks you added the previous week, how many times your work has been used by another person, as well as an overall Codiga ranking of users who have the most Recipe usage platform-wide.
Respected developer and author Eric S. Raymond once said “Good programmers know what to write. Great ones know what to rewrite and reuse”, and we couldn’t agree more. At the end of the day, software development is all about intelligent iterations and learning from each other’s work. We’re thrilled to be building a network of intelligent, experienced and dedicated engineers that can grow, learn and contribute as much as they want to. By offering some Codiga merchandise as a token of our appreciation, we hope to inject a little more fun, and admittedly, competitiveness, back into the world of coding.
